The Legacy of Roger Strand
In 1983, Roger Strand hosted the first Prairie Pothole Day on his 115-acre farm, The Stoney Ridge Farm. Roger had a passion for conservation and this event was created as a fundraiser for waterfowl habitat in Minnesota.
Over the years Prairie Pothole Day has grown from 800 people in attendance and raising $3,000 in it’s first year to celebrating 41 years in 2024 with over 3,000 people in attendance and raising $52,000.
In 2024, Prairie Pothole Day was moved to Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center in rural Spicer, MN. The event continues to be free admission and a family-friendly day of fun in the outdoors.
“The day is more than just a fund-raiser. It’s meant to be educational, especially as the value of wetlands.” ~Roger Strand
“I hope what people take away is an appreciation for the beauty and the worth of natural places, including wetlands and woods.”
~Roger Strand
